Launched in 2007, this prestigious awards programme celebrates and benchmarks the best media work on the planet. This year it celebrates 20 years of amplifying media and advertising globally.
Once again the work gaining all the plaudits on the shortlist has come from all over the planet and this year the most lauded countries are India, Germany, UK, US, Australia, Canada, Spain, UAE, New Zealand, Ecuador, China and Argentina.
From those counties the most shortlisted campaigns – and putting themselves in with a great chance of a trophy in the final round of judging are Wavemaker India’s Colgate Oral Health Movement; Garage363 UAE’s Nike Vomero 18 Burj Khalifa Activation; MediaPlus Germany’s Screen2Save; Mindshare Australia’s Come Play for Real in New Zealand and Havas Play France’s FireCatchers.
This year, for the first time, the programme also welcomes the ‘Advertiser of the Year’ Grand Prix, which willrecognise the client with the most shortlisted entries and wins across the programme. Dominating the shortlist and putting themselves in a strong position for this honour are Colgate India, McDonald’s, Nike, KFC, Initiative Vermisste Kinder & Free2move, Uber Eats and Boost Protein.
“From the results of the first round of judging it is clear the level of work has once again increased from around the world. There are going to be some tough decisions for the final judging groups next month when awarding the trophies. It’s also great see work from the likes of Germany, Ecuador, UAE and Spain challenging the traditional media powerhouse of the likes of the UK and US. It’s going to interesting,” said Leah Mellard, Awards Director, Festival of Media.
The shortlisting has also positioned some intriguing battles between the agencies battling it out for the Agency of the Year Grand Prix. Leading the way with the most shortlisted accolades is Mindshare India, Wavemaker India, OMD Germany, MediaPlus Germany, Cossette Medias Canada, WPP Media India and Garage363 UAE.
This year’s jury includes senior clients from companies including Hasbro, Rolls Royce, Samsung, Coca Cola, Bottega Veneta, Pernod Ricard. Tik Tok, LVMH, Nissan and Haloen, and they are set for some fascinating discussions and deliberations during the final round in May.
