Three years ago we launched an awards programme to showcase how media can be a force for good and the results have made for interesting reading.
During three iterations of the programme we have seen media work from all corners of the planet, which has seamlessly incorporated purpose or cause and had an impact that has helped change social perceptions, the law and most importantly provided education on everything from inclusion to how to prevent wildfires.
Interestingly the awarded work has tended to come from countries including Australia, France, Costa Rica, the USA and Germany, but there has been a distinct lack of winning campaigns from the UK, which comes as something of a surprise if believed everything you see or hear.
You cannot turn on a social media channel without seeing a UK based media organisation talking about the inclusive, sustainable or charitable initiatives they are implementing or taking part in.
This asks the question of whether the UK is doing enough to help make the country a better place and if all of the talk about doing so is just, talk, posturing and has no substance.
Or could it be the UK is shy about promoting itself and the work it is doing, but again we are not sure that is right.
Hopefully it is just the UK being too busy and not realising it has the opportunity to make heroes out of the people organising and running initiatives within their organisations.
However, after reviewing the applications for the Adwanted Events Future 100 Club we discovered that it’s not all talk and there are several amazing initiatives being implemented by some of the future leaders of our industry. The likes of MG OMD, Medialab, Seedtag and Talon – to name but a few – have allowed these future leaders to implement initiatives that have not only educated and changed social perceptions, but have made them stand out to their clients.
Now is the time to amplify these to the rest of the world and highlight how the UK is also doing its bit to help make the planet a better and safer space. We are keen to see your work and encourage more of it from the industry. Media really can be a force for good.
Good luck and we looks forward to seeing your work.
