For many Wellingtonians, Christmas wasn’t shaping up to be merry.
Thousands of people depend on Wellington City Mission (WCM) to get through the Christmas period. Every year, WCM runs a Christmas Appeal raising donations to support the community with food supply for families who can’t afford it and critical care like transitional housing.
With inflation at its 30-year high of 8.2%, cost of living challenges were biting hard. The impact was being felt by all New Zealanders. For those WCM supports, this was the difference between having food on the table and a roof over their head or not.
The challenge:
We faced an urgent need to draw out the generosity of donors in the toughest of financial times, but critical funds couldn’t be spent on media – every dollar needed to go to those in need.
We had no media budget.
