Maarten is the CEO for Flock Associates USA. Flock Associates is known as the Marketing Transformation Company, and works with clients like McDonald’s, British American Tobacco, Johnson & Johnson, Toyota-Lexus and many more that can not be mentioned due to confidentiality agreements.
Maarten started his career on the agency side, working at J. Walter Thompson, Leo Burnett and McCann-Erickson, steadily expanding his role from media to communications planning and management. He also moved from Amsterdam to London to New York during this time.
In 1999 Coca-Cola appointed him VP, Media & Marketing Asset Management at Coca-Cola Japan, building Integrated Marketing solutions for the FIFA World Cup 2002. Following Japan, Maarten moved to Coca-Cola Germany to implement Integrated Marketing Communications across all brands. In late 2005 Maarten relocated to Coke’s headquarters in Atlanta as Director, Global Communication Innovation.
In 2008, Anheuser Busch-Inbev was formed as the world’s largest beer brewer. Maarten joined the company’s NY headquarters in September of 2009 as VP, Global Connections with end-responsibility for all consumer touch points (media, digital, sports & entertainment marketing) while building their global integrated marketing ecosystem.
Maarten helped launch Flock Associates USA in 2014, and serves as its US CEO. He has been and is a frequent contributor to events like The Festival of Media, DMexco and SxSW. He is the co-author of the book “Z.E.R.O., zero paid media as the new marketing model” with Joseph Jaffe (Wiley, October 2013), and writes a bi-weekly column for MediaPost on Friday’s. When he is not traveling like an international man of mystery, he walks the dog with his wife or attends his son’s football (soccer?) matches.
